It’s easy to think that travel is going to be expensive. In some cases, it is. However, you really don’t believe that you need to have a ton of money, or come from a wealthy family to be able to travel. In fact, it can be the exact opposite. You can actually travel the world, or go on several trips a year, by just being smart with your money. And there are several ways in which you can do this. Sure, right now, you feel broke. That you’ve only got enough money to pay for the essentials – and nothing spare for travel. But we’re about to change all of that. If you’re desperate to welcome travel into your life but you’re worried that money is holding you back, these five ideas will help you.
I feel like I should be a poster girl for budget travel, all my friends kept asking how I could afford to travel as a student – it wasn’t something I had saved up for I just found the right offers and excursions. Also, I remember during my Erasmus year abroad a lot of the activities (mainly nights out and dinners) were free so it was great for a gal on a budget. I remember my dad saying to me “Molly, your photos and stories sounds like a millionaire lifestyle on a lemonade budget” … so true and I loved it!
Set Up A Budget
To begin with, you need to set up a budget. Starting a budget can help you to track your money – what comes in and goes out. Then, you can start to adjust things so that you’re making your current income go further, and able to allocate more money to travel.
The next thing that you’re going to want to do here, is to start cutting back. Because shifting money around is just the start. If you really want to travel, then it needs to be your priority. So, you ma want to cut back on other expenses, or cut them altogether! This will then give you more money to put towards your travels. It’s easy and effective!
Save First (And Automatically)
However, the real trick is to make sure that you’re saving first. That’s right, put the money into your travel savings first, and then anything that’s left can then be divided between your bills and other expenses you have. And do it automatically. Set up an automatic payment for your money to go into savings, and this then ensures that your travel money is a priority.
Explore All Avenues
But then also, you’re going to want to make sure that you think about the different ways that you can finance your travels. Because saving isn’t all you can do. Here, you could look into financing such as Evolution Money’s long term loans or even loans from family. Or maybe you’d like to get the rest of the money together yourself, and so selling old things for cash could add up.
Make More Money
And finally, when you’re mastering the above and you’ve got into the groove of saving and putting money aside for what you want or need, then your next step is to make more. Yes, more money! Because aside from your job, there’s so much more that you can do. You can work on side hustle projects in the evening. You can freelance or make money blogging. You could even get a second job at the weekend. If you really want to make more money, you can. You just have to put the time in. And then, you should find that saving up for travel is easy after all.
